Advice line prophecies fulfilled
(16 January 2006)
The predicted post-Christmas deluge of debt advice lines was duly forthcoming, according to depressing new statistics from the National Debtline.
Noting that it had been unable to answer two-thirds of calls for its services over the past two weeks due to astronomical demand, it announced that 12,000 calls had been received from trouble-stricken consumers in the short time since January 3rd.
This has prompted the advice body to move quickly, increasing its staff numbers by 40 per cent in the face of unabating demand.
Also revealed was the fact that in the decade between 1994 and 2004 the number of callers per annum to the Debtline soared by almost 100,000 a figure which only keeps on climbing.
A payday loan won't sort your finances out in one fell swoop, and it may not stop you needing further debt advice but it will help you ensure that you're not piling more onto your existing sources of credit, and is quickly repayable when your next payday comes around, leaving you unencumbered by any more long-term debts.
The new figures relating to advice lines come as little surprise before Christmas the Consumer Credit Counselling Service predicted that it will receive a record 20,000 calls for help before January comes to a close.
