Brits missing out on overtime yields
(10 March 2006)

A large number of working Brits do not get paid for the significant amount of overtime they put in, a survey from Clerical Medical has revealed.

We put in an average of 3.5 years of overtime over our working lives – men clocking up 4.2 years and women 2.6 years – which amounts to £80,000 each in wages, but unfortunately it's not quite that simple.

This is because two thirds of women and around half of men do not find that they're paid for the extra hours they work – thus ensuring that they're potentially missing out on a highly useful sum of cash.

Therefore John Hiew, managing director of Clerical Medical, may be providing somewhat cold comfort when he says: "The work culture in this country has changed dramatically in the last 20 years.

"We really do put in the hours and many of us go above and beyond the call of duty to get the job done, which is testament to us as a nation."

If you're putting the extra work in but not reaping the dividends, it may be worth having a word with the boss – but if you could do more quickly with some of the money that overtime can provide then a payday loan could come in handy while you sort things out.

Receiving between £80 and £1,000 will certainly perk up your financial prospects for the month, perhaps allowing you that treat your hard work has earned while you attempt to make sure that you're not toiling without reward in the future.
