Christmas bonuses on the wane
(20 December 2005)

Few people are going to find a bonus in their festive pay packets this year, according to research from the Royal Bank of Scotland's One account.

It has shown that 73 per cent of people do not think they will receive any form of bonus at all when their accounts are replenished, although expectations on the part of those who are expecting to receive extra funds seem to vary wildly.

The average bonus expected by men was £1,600, while women set their sights surprisingly low in comparison with a predicted £818.

Of the prospective bonus recipients, 69 per cent envisaged spending it within a month and only nine per cent expected to put it into their savings. Generosity played a key role in this decision, though – 58 per cent will splash the bonus cash on their partners.

Debbie Milsom from the One account said: "Although there have been many reports of six-figure bonuses in the City it seems that the majority of people are not expecting a year end bonus."

Bonus or no bonus, if you're waiting until after Christmas to be paid it could be that resources are running low ahead of your last-minute extravagances. A cash advance in the form of a payday loan, repayable only when you've been paid, would solve that problem and, especially if you're lucky enough to be one of those expecting a bonus, perhaps allow you that extra bit of luxury this year.
