Cost of pregnancy laid bare
(26 January 2006)
The considerable cost of preparing to have a kid has been revealed by baby milk manufacturer SMA Nutrition.
An average of £1,560 is splashed out on prospective parents over the course of a pregnancy, the firm's survey discovered, with one in fifty people spending as much as £5,800 and one in seven seeing their bank accounts lightened by between £2,000 and £2,500.
A typical sum of £1,060 goes on "essentials" such as car seats, prams and equipment for feeding and changing. A further £500 is spent on maternity wear and other materials for the baby's mother, while prams and pushchairs sometimes costing over £200 are generally the most expensive items.
SMA's John McGinley said: "The cost of bringing up a child is well reported, but this is the first time pre-baby expenditure has been calculated.
"With so many magazines and books dedicated to parenthood providing advice, it can be easy to be swept away by the wide choice of nursery kit available to supposedly make life easier."
If you have a pregnancy to deal with and quickly need to prepare yourself, a payday loan can come to the rescue when cashflow is lacking in the short term.
With up to £1,000 available and no more than £25 repaid for every £100 borrowed, you could make sure that you're kitted up nicely for the nine months ahead and save yourself hassle at a later date.
