Dog lovers shell out thousands
(01 March 2006)
Dog owners go barking mad when it comes to splashing money on their cherished pets, an annual survey by Churchill has revealed.
Lovers of canines across the country spend a total of £145 billion on man's best friends, with the average dog costing its owner a staggering £22,000 over the course of its lifetime.
This is more than the average wedding and almost as much as a typical first-time buyer's house deposit but over 90 per cent of dog owners are said to be in the dark as to how much their pet is costing them.
The most expensive dog, costing £32,810 over a lifetime, was calculated to be the Great Dane at over double the outlay required for the upkeep of a Jack Russell.
Mike Ketteringham, head of Churchill Pet Insurance, commented: "There are significant differences between the costs of different dog breeds and it is important people take this into account as one of the factors when choosing their new pet."
All dog lovers will know that Crufts kicks off next week and perhaps your pet is entering and you want to splash out on a few last-minute essentials and preparations, or maybe your dog is staying put but could do with a veterinary check-up or some grooming products?
If either of these is the case, a payday loan will ensure that you have enough money to make these purchases within 24 hours of your online application and it won't have to be paid back until you've received your next pay packet, ensuring that you're not going to be stretched beyond your means at any stage.
