Female footy fans splash out
(15 February 2006)
Female football fans splash out more on following their favourite teams than all of the UK's women put together spend on beauty products and haircuts, according to research from Virgin Money.
The 5.8 million women who regard themselves as football fans out of 17.86 million adults in total spend £1 billion supporting their sides each season, with £710 million shelled out on match tickets over this period and £298 million being put towards club merchandise.
This all amounts to £269 million more than women across the UK spend on beauty and hair services and products, showing that the female love of the beautiful game is currently effervescent, with one in three fans now being a member of the fairer sex.
Spokesman Scott Mowbray said: "Women love football just as much as men and they're proving it with the amount they spend week in, week out.
"Although Premiership attendances are down for the third season in a row, we must applaud the clubs that have made a concerted effort to make coming to games a more welcoming experience for all."
Whether you're male or female, the football season will soon be approaching its business end and if your team is in the running for honours you won't want to miss out on getting a slice of the action.
A payday loan of between £80 and £1,000 should see you fine for match tickets between now and the end of the season if money is currently tight and give you cause to experience the celebration or despair of the season's closing stages at first hand!
