Lavish love lolly for Londoners
(22 February 2006)

Londoners' wallets received a form of capital punishment in the run-up to Valentine's Day, but it was all in the name of love.

A survey from Barclaycard Business reveals that the city's consumers spent more than those in any other part of the UK to ensure that their loved – or just sought-after – one enjoyed a romantic day to remember, shelling out an average of £132.

Nearby Middlesex, with a typical £109 spend, lags behind in second – followed by Birmingham (£107) and Yorkshire (£100).

Powys, in Wales, has the least romantic – or perhaps just the most resourceful – lovers, who spent a relatively measly £32 in their efforts to please.

Brendan Rogers of Barclaycard Business surveyed the findings and said: "As a nation we clearly still believe in Valentine's Day and in buying our loved ones something special.

"There is a significant difference across the country in the average amount spent on traditional gifts such as jewellery and flowers, indicating that while we may believe in the notion of spoiling our Valentine, not all of want to suffer the real price of love."

Maybe you didn't buy into the commercialism of Valentine's Day but do feel the need to surprise that special someone with a special gift, or perhaps a breakaway for the two of you.

A payday loan, providing you with short term cash in the space of 24 hours, is ideal for this purpose. You'll pay back no more than £25 for every £100 borrowed and by the time you've repaid it on your next pay day it will have left none of the shadows hanging over your finances which you may risk through longer-term deals.
