Money sickness hits Britain
(20 January 2006)
New research shows worries over money and debt have caused health problems to a large percentage of people.
Mental health expert Dr Roger Henderson has published a paper identifying Money Sickness Syndrome (MSS) as a leading cause of stress.
Symptoms of MSS include palpitations, shortness of breath and headaches, a 'tight' feeling in the stomach, indigestion, a lack of appetite and poor sleep.
Axa has calculated that 43 per cent of people have suffered from MSS and 3.8 million people have admitted to taking time off work because of money troubles.
Dr Henderson said: "The worry and anxiety caused by the feeling of having a total lack of control over your finances can put great stress on your health and well-being.
"The key to dealing with MSS is to have a plan of action that reduces the burden of debt and in doing so helps to reduce the physical and psychological symptoms it causes."
One way to escape the pressures of money troubles is to take a payday loan. If you apply online you could have between £80 and £1,000 within 24 hours.
Worries about long-term debt are also removed as the loan is simply repaid once your next payday comes.
